THE ROAD, THE JOURNEY — CHINA

“For the first time in my life, I put down my black and white world. China forced me
to see in color — and in doing so, I had to learn to see myself differently.”

In Fujian, women wear tradition the way one wears a festive dress. Crowns of flowers, embroidered silk, hairstyles that echo distant dynasties — and then a smartphone in hand, the bustle of a market street, the crowd pressing through a temple. This gallery was born from those encounters: moments stolen between the sacred and the everyday, between cultural identity and modern life.I photographed in the courtyards of Quanzhou’s temples, in the narrow alleys of the old city, in the villages of the Tulou. Everywhere, red. On the walls, the robes, the lanterns. And the faces — curious, absorbed, smiling — carrying centuries of history without the burden of performing it
